Precise preliminary survey in the Turin–Lyon tunnel

Safety and efficiency through drilling technology..

Preparations for further tunnelling work on the Turin–Lyon tunnel project are in full swing. THYSSEN SCHACHTBAU GMBH is currently carrying out a complex full-bore drilling operation to accurately assess the hydrogeological conditions in the rock.

Focus on precision: Our tool for this crucial step is a high-performance HBR 201 drilling rig from Hütte/Casagrande.

Safety first: As we expect to encounter a pressurised, water-bearing formation in this section of the tunnel, safety is our top priority.

To ensure the project is as safe as possible, the borehole is equipped with a preventer system (pressure rating 3,000 psi). This robust combination of a rotary and jaw preventer offers maximum protection for:

  • our team
  • our machinery
  • the progress of the works

Planning certainty through preliminary hydrogeological surveys: With this strategic approach, THYSSEN SCHACHTBAU GMBH ensures that work can be carried out in complete safety, even under challenging conditions.

Precise preliminary hydrogeological surveys form the foundation for accurate planning and smooth, efficient tunnel driving – without any unwanted surprises.

Behind this success are dedicated people! We are proud of our drilling team and the entire on-site crew – for their commitment and team spirit.

Glückauf!
