For over a decade, THYSSEN SCHACHTBAU has been contributing to the success of one of Europe’s most significant infrastructure projects – the Semmering Base Tunnel.
As part of the consortium with our partners Implenia and Hochtief, we can look back with pride on 11 years of intensive construction work on the SBT1.1 contract section.

For us, this project is far more than just a construction project – it is lasting proof of our technical capabilities:

• Tunnel and shaft construction under the most challenging geological conditions.
• Preventer-assisted advance exploration of fault zones and water-bearing sections.
• Development and use of state-of-the-art rock grouting techniques to seal and stabilise the rock mass, ensuring safe tunnelling.

The fact that we have been able to play a part in shaping this mammoth project over so many years underlines the strength of our partnership within the consortium and our deep understanding of the challenges facing modern tunnelling.

As always, our greatest thanks go to our colleagues on site, who achieve great things every day through their dedication, and to our client OBB for their long-standing and trusting collaboration.
